The Shire of Roxbury Mill, raucous and ribald in its revelry, invites one and all to the third annual Feast of Fools on January 20, 2018, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Rockville, Maryland. This year’s theme is inspired by the 14 th Century poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.” As a pearl compares to a pea, we will be choosing a King and Queen of Misrule as our “Arthur” and “Guinevere” to rule over the evening.
This is a feasting and games-only event, there are no martial activities. Each reveler needs to bring Feast Gear, or at a minimum a plate, bowl, cup, knife and spoon. This event is also BYOB. There WILL BE audience participation. It is not required, but may be difficult to avoid. Contests and dice games abound for wagering and competition. The one with the most “gambling” beads wins a prize at the end of the night. Like last year, there will be a bawdy bardic competition between the removes of the Feast. The performer who fills his grail with the most “performance” beads wins. A bonus will be awarded if the performance includes this year’s theme.
**Please note the entertainment will be bawdy and not suitable for children.**
A sumptuous two-remove feast of 14 th Century European dishes is being prepared by Baron Hamish McLeod. Those with dietary restrictions please contact Baron Hamish at dwolfhunter@msn.com
Can you knock the Green Knight’s block off in one blow? Can you discretely pass a dec in dice? Can you eat a whole Portuguese fart? Can you sing superbly to make the Shire sigh? Then forward to the Feast you Fools!
