Atlantia needs Heirs! To that end, a Crown Tournament will be held in the Shire of Spiaggia Levantina.
General Activities
Martial Activities:
We are now accepting Letters of Intent for Our Crown Tournament. The deadline for Crown Letters of Intent will be October 30th. We hope our candidates will submit those letters sooner rather than later to accommodate our clerical volunteers, our shield tree painters, and to provide time to correct any errors or omissions.
The Letter of Intent shall include all the following required information: Modern and SCA names along with address, email address and phone number for both fighter and consort. Membership numbers and expiration dates for both fighter and consort. Please send all Letters of Intent both to Their Majesties as well as to the Kingdom Seneschal.
The tournament will be much the same as previous years. There will be four round robin pools with the top 4 from each pool advancing to a double elimination tournament of sixteen fighters. The round robin pools will be seeded by Martial Order of Precedence of the combatant. Any fighters tied for the final spot from these pools will do another mini round robin to see who advances.
After the round robins, the top 16 fighters will then be seeded first by their win and loss record in the pools; with Martial Order of Precedence breaking any ties. For example, if we have four undefeated fighters tied 6-0, those four will be seeded by their Martial OP. All fighters that go 5-1 will then be seeded into the tree by Martial OP, then 4-2 and so on. Refight victories or losses from mini round robins will NOT count toward the win/loss record.
This system creates a more entertaining tournament and makes every fight actually count. This gives fighters that are mathematically guaranteed advancement a reason to try extra hard in those few finals fights in the pools. This also gives fighters who are mathematically excluded from advancement a way to still affect the list in those later fights. We intend to have bye fighters to make sure that each pool has the same amount of fighters. If you are interested in being one of those bye fighters, please feel free to contact HRM Randall.
Finals will be the best of 5 matching weapons with the highest fighter in Martial OP choosing the first weapon style, junior choosing second fight and so on. If a fifth fight is needed the combatants will bring their best weapon form. Spears will be an acceptable weapons form in the finals!
We look forward to witnessing great deeds, honorable contests, and securing our Kingdom’s future!
A&S:
There will be an Arts & Sciences solar, overseen by Lady Angeline, with plenty of seating and room to work on projects.
The Tempore Atlantia is a contest to determine the best entry for one of four time periods.
The contest time period rotates among:
- Prehistory-1000 AD
- 1000 AD-1350 AD
- 1350 AD-1500 AD
- 1500 AS-1600 AD
The contest is traditionally held three times a year at Kingdom 12th Night and Spring and Fall Crown Tournament.
At this year’s Fall Crown tournament, the contest will focus on the time period of 1500-1600 AD.
Individuals may bring as many items as they wish to participate in a Tempore Atlantia exhibition. The only criteria will be that those items be from the time period being highlighted at that particular event. We hope that the Kingdom’s Laurels, Pearls, and others will make it a regular part of their event day to visit the display area and perhaps leave comments and/or tokens for participants.
If you want to participate but are unable to do so in person or have someone bring your entry to the event, please contact the Contests Deputy and the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences. We will try to accommodate you with an online option.
Entrants will be able to mark their items as “non-competitive” (display-only) if they choose.
Historical Note: Tempore Atlantia was started at the Fall Coronation of 2002 by the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences. Originally, the event took place at Crown Tournaments, Coronations, and 12th Night. In 2016, this was reduced to only Crown Tournaments in order to allow for greater diversity in Kingdom-level contests. In 2019, Kingdom 12th Night was returned to the line up in order to have the time periods rotate throughout the year. Also, time periods were adjusted slightly to better match major shifts in medieval culture
